How to Get an Absentee Ballot

Voting absentee in Rochester, Michigan, is simple and accessible—no reason or excuse is required. Whether you’re traveling, have mobility concerns, or just prefer the convenience of voting from home, requesting an absentee ballot is a secure and straightforward process.

Who Can Vote Absentee?

Every registered voter in Michigan is eligible to vote absentee. You do not need to provide a reason—just submit a request to receive your ballot.

How to Request an Absentee Ballot

You can apply for an absentee ballot using any of the following methods:

  • In Person: Visit the City Clerk’s Office at Rochester City Hall (400 Sixth Street, Rochester, MI 48307).
  • By Email: Send a signed application to elections@rochestermi.org.
  • Online: Apply through the Michigan Secretary of State’s website.
  • Drop Box: Submit your signed application using the Elections Drop Box located on the west side of the Municipal Building.
  • By Mail: Use the prepaid postage application form sent by the City.
  • Digital Submission: Scan or take a photo of your signed application and email it to the Clerk’s Office.

Permanent Mail Ballot List

If you’d like to automatically receive a ballot for all future elections, you can apply to join the Permanent Mail Ballot List. This replaces the older Permanent Absentee Ballot Application List. You only need to submit one signed application to be added, using any of the same methods above.
